Joseph Parra lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He received an MFA from Hunter College, New York, NY (2022); a BFA from the Maryland Institute College ofArt, Baltimore, MD (2012); and attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Madison, ME (2014). Parra has refined a mesmerising technique of placing beads of acrylic paint directly onto the canvas, building a sensual illusion that compels viewers to shift their perspective in order to fully grasp both the medium and the subject. Parra’s recent exhibitions include The edge of flesh and blood, Montclair StateUniversity, NJ (2023), and Under The Sun (2025), The Fight Between Carnival and Lent (2025), and Actions & Perceptions (2024) at Friedrichs Pontone, New York. Parra has participated in several artist residencies, including: Offshore Residency, Penobscot Bay, ME; the Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, VT; Second State Press, Philadelphia, PA; the International School of Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture, Umbria, Italy; and the Atelier Artist in Residence Program, New York, NY. Joseph Parra’s prowess is demonstrated through his wide appeal and efforts within the art canon.
