Michael Sanzone: Highland

2 February - 9 March 2024

Friedrichs Pontone is delighted to announce an exhibition of new works by Michael Sanzone in his sought-after Cask Work series inspired by his time as an Artist in Residence in Dufftown, Scotland. We invite you to join us the evening of February 2nd to view his sculptural paintings constructed from found wood pieces, in this case previously used whisky barrels. Sanzone became increasingly interested in the journey of wood used to make the casks - built from Spanish or American oak, transported to Scotland, and then filled, tagged, coded, tended to, used, discarded, and eventually found and recycled into this work. The distinct colors and shapes of each piece, united with the damp scent of whisky soaked wood, lends to a sensory experience that is the Scottish Highlands from the Artist's viewpoint.
