Friedrichs Pontone is delighted to present Twilight in the Garden, Kristi Kongi’s first solo exhibition in the United States.
Estonian artist Kristi Kongi makes paintings and site-specific installations. Her work is rooted in a formal exploration of light, color and space, initiated by her memories of personally-significant landscapes and their emotional associations.
Kongi paints abstracted landscapes through contrasting, bright colors and geometric shapes. Her work emphasizes the beauty of nature through a fragmented lens. By focusing on the simplistic shapes and colors of the Earth, Kongi portrays the energy and feelings that the natural world elicits. She creates metaphors that connect the sky to feelings of hope and fear while personifying the moon and the light of day.
Kongi creates a spiritual relationship to nature in her paintings. Her ability to bridge each work to a particular emotion generates a personal association for each viewer. The colorful paintings evoke universal human feelings, connecting everyone to Kongi’s geometric landscapes.
Bringing together fourteen of Kongi’s recent works, Twilight in the Garden turns the gallery into a spiritual sanctuary. Kongi invites viewers into her perspective on the visual beauty of the world around us.
